This barn/home has been floating around a lot lately on the internet and I too have particularly drawn to it. Mainly because the home owners weren't afraid to simply use exposed OSB as the dominate material throughout the home. Doesn't get more down to the earth than that, especially when are physically living in the middle of meadow somewhere in Great Britain. Another detail that I am particularly fond of is the exposed beams and structural details that are involved. If I have learned anything over the last months working in the design field, it is my true love of honest materials & well thought out details which are both impressively apparent in this home. I would happily vacation here sometime in the near future...

Now it all makes sense. Why it makes sense I'm drawn to any book Taschen produces. It's because of this very fashionista who is behind all the beautiful images, breathtaking covers and pages and pages of beautiful photography in any subject you can imagine. Coffee table books are my downfall--and now Taschen does the same thing with her home that she does with her books--makes my knees weak!! What a simply stunning space!

And let me tell you, Dana Tanamachi has it down. Her work has been floating around the internet for awhile now but I absolutely love her work and I give her mad credit because I can't even imagine having to carefully erase on a chalkboard without smearing the rest of your hard work...But this girl has got it down, watch her delightful videos here.

I could barely sit still at work today when I saw that Mika Tajima now is on show at the SAM, which just happens to be right across the street from my firm (therefore no excuses to miss it)!

I have heard Mika Tajima's name around the design blogmosphere and have always been quite intrigued about her mixed media exhibits which explore a lot of architecture & interior elements. Supposedly some of Tajima's work has been inspired from the modular desking systems of Herman Miller which explains a lot of her strategic use of primary colors and wall-like panels.

It's been awhile since I've done a retail design post, let alone an interior one! However, it is time we change that, therefore I give you Philip Lim 3.1's boutique which was designed by Tacklebox. Not only do they use my favorite materials: lucite, white walls, blonde wood they custom created the awesome lucite showcases that seem more like a coffee table than a retail fixture. A+ execution and I love the detail of the traditional white claw foot. This store is just another reason I need to take a trip to NYC!

Another aspect of inspiration for me is the raw stones in Vamoose's gorgeous, au-naturale jewellry line! I have always admired her amazing visual blog but to see some of her newest pieces has me wanting to make a dash to the nearest bead store...

Last but not least, make sure to peep Jamie XX's newest mix he compiled on BBC the other week. The XX definitely is one of my favorite bands so when I listend to the Essential Mix I know I was about to have a treat in store for me...All of the songs in his 2 hour mix are spot on and will be on the repeat for me for the next couple of weeks without a doubt.

Photos from my family hike to Mt. Rainer this past Sunday. I was especially inspired from the Beauty & Bound exhibit at the SAM right now which showcases Pacific Northwest landscape paintings from the 19th & 20th century. I am excited to finally see the exhibit for myself next Thursday--plus it's the first Thursday of the month therefore it's free admittance (yay!)

Mondays I always wake up a little too late and a little too groggy in the morning to really cohesively concoct a sensible ensemble. However, this week I am incredibly inspired by the fashionable ladies above that aren't afraid to mix texture and color--2 things that I sometimes try to ignore at 6 am...However, I will be trying extra hard this week to wake up a little bit earlier and a little more coherent to really try and step out of my comfort zone.With this said, a very Happy Monday to wherever you may be!

They definitely came up with a unique concept to group items together according to lifestyle in which they call "Bundles". Since most of these items are geared for the male gender,I am perfectly content with the tastefully designed picnic carry-all which I would gladly sport around all day even after the fact...

I am so excited about this delightful new magazine, Kinfolk. It is the perfect 'how-to' handbook on modern day entertaining for our generation with recipes, custom dinner playlists, how to set an organic inspired tabletop and most importantly how to cook for one (vs cooking for a whole dinner party). Being the major foodie I am, I am so excited to get some fresh cooking ideas--but first I need to get a little more experience in the kitchen :) Check out the first issue right here.

Now that I'm back online it's only natural that I post some true dainty with a dash of floral inspiration plus I mostly just love this branding of this Brooklyn florist's website...

With these vivid images it's only natural to transition into these lush images composed by my alltime favorite style/graphic designer/girl crush blogger (can you tell I'm her biggest fan? ha), Miss Moss...How ingenious are these collages? Absolutely love!

And just because this recent local discovery can tag right along with the flora and fauna theme, I'm going to show a few images of this delightful flower shop, Marigold & Mint. MIDCENTURY DWELLING

Look at this mid-century inspired beauty in the Hamptons!! Can you believe it was built in the early 2000's and not straight out of the Bauhaus movement. The gridded curtain wall, open floor plan, half walls and that rectangular pool are all similar elements that were seen in the German Pavillion which was designed by the Bauhaus icon himself, Mies van de Rohe. This particular home is designed by architect, Michael Haverland who has designed some stunning residences all over New York. By the way did anyone notice the PINK Eames lounge chair in the second image? Now that's a unique spin on a classic piece!

Just stumbled upon on this awesome site, "The Makers". Very like the idea of the Coveteur, who showcase established designers in their homes, the Makers showcases independent designers & artists in their studio spaces as well as beautiful photos of their hand-crafted products. These gorgeous light fixtures are custom created by Jean Pelle and her husband, who both studied architecture at Yale. CLEAN LINES

Now this is INTERIOR DESIGN! Lately I have been lacking interior inspiration, I feel like so much of the focus has been on the smaller details that make up a space but the initial structural layout is being forgotten. The work of Rees Roberts is truly inspiring to me, with a minimalist approach but creates an instantly luxe look through materials, a strong open plan and blending the indoors with outdoors which makes me fall harder for the modern aesthetic!

This well designed homes seems to celebrate Mies Van de Rohre (through use of luxe materials, open column layout and large picture windows) & Johnson's glass house. I can also see the large impact that midcentury modern design has on these projects through the furniture selection in all the homes, note the Jacobsen chairs around the dining room.

Needless to say, Rees Robert has me inspired and further reminds me that simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication!

MODERN DAY FEMME UNIFORM

Equipment Femme is coming out with some major cool product for the modern day woman with an updated take on an everyday blouse. With blush-neutrals color palettes, breezy fabrics and an unexpected prints that pop up every so often in the collection, each of these classically structured blouses would look equally good with a pencil skirt as they would a boyfriend jean, skinny or even high-waisted shorts! J'adore!

How wonderful is Louisa Parris's studio space pictured above? She is native Brit who now resides in San Fran as a fashion designer. I love all her watercolor mix sheets and how she translates the medium's fluidity into her garments. You can see the direction connection between her art and her fashion collections. I feel like I could create some great designs if I too worked in her stunning studio.

A PERFECTLY DAY-LIT EATERY

I finally caught up on my reality TV last night and happened to catch the new Bravo show, "Million Dollar Decorators". I couldn't believe that I heard of almost all the designers on the show and mostly because of being exposed to their work via blogging.

Nonetheless, it was interesting to see into their daily lives as designers and to witness all the good and bad that comes along with doing high-end projects with high profile clients. My favorite project that was mentioned on the show, was in fact Tavern, designed by Jeffrey Alan Marks.

This type of project is the exact kind I would love to design! I absolutely love the incredible daylight that accompanies the elegant atmosphere, that is more inviting than ritzy. If I am ever in the LA area, I will most definitely have to swing by here, I could easily spend breakfast to dinner in this beautiful space and the pastries don't look half bad either...

KEEP POPPING UP

Can you guess a) that this is actually a temporary "pop-up" store and b) what iconic French fashion house is being showcased? It is indeed, Chanel and what an updated interpretation of this timeless brand with fresh touches of glamourous gold tiling and mirrors versuses the usual B & W design style. Pop-up shops have been bursting on the retail design scene in the last year and are definitely here to stay for awhile. After all, look at this particular one, it definitely looks like it will be here for awhile! Keep the pop-up shops coming I say, it really gives brands a chance to step out of their comfort zone with design and try more adventurous interiors to showcase their product!

I am an absolute sucker for reclaimed wood, a touch of rusticated brick, accents of white and black and the finishing touch of some fresh floras. Architect Diana Kellogg's loft space had me falling head over heals. I am sure there is already a waiting list for this darling dwelling, if she EVERS she happens to moves out...it's the absolute perfect amount of rusticated charm.

I am just about 99.7% finished with my college career and here is my almost complete portfolio filled with 4 years of studio projects. Every project in here reminds me of all the sweat, tears and little sleep that went into something I am completely passionate about! When working on my studio retail project, I realize what a world of difference a few simple details can make towards the customer. By designing every aspect of a company and branding it down to shopping bags, signage, tags, it truly will improve the company and the persuade the customers to buy more. Simplicity Takes Courage, Especially in Retail

I am currently working on my senior capstone project which just so happens to be a retail design project (needless to say I had to do a lot of "research" at boutiques and numerous shopping visits). However, during some of my research I referenced back to the high-end retail stores, Joseph based out of the UK.

Their store designs are the epitome of simple and modern--even down to their bold and effective graphics (love their choice in type faces). I am intrigued by their clean, sterile spaces but I think I still crave a little more life and warmth in my spaces. Nonetheless I love their well designed fixtures and interesting take on lighting. In particular, I find the clothing racks with the mirror on the outside very successful--genius 2-1 implementation by the architects of Raed Abillama of Lebanon.

Just like after my favorite decorator's (Dorothy Draper) book, I too am "into the pink" lately. Maybe its just hopes for some warm weather and bring back my spring closet. So glad the Coveteur is up and running again! I love the juxtaposition of garments against everyday items in one's home such as books, magazines, furniture, etc. By doing this you truly get a feeling of one's style through all aspects of their lives.

I have to say Britt Aboutaleb is definitely a girl after my own taste. A bit of stripes, some chunky necklaces and she even reads my favorite British mag, The Gentlewomen. Which reminds me I want to order issue No. 3!

Works by artist, Cy Twombly. Absolutely stunning pieces with exaggerated brush strokes and an endless color palette. I am truly inspired right now especially due to the face that I have 2 blank canvases in my room calling my name.
I actually saw the last painting at the Tate Modern in London and currently have the post card size print hanging in my room so I am excited to see Twombly's other works. Now I really want to purchase the book "Fifty Years of Drawing on Paper" to add to my "library".

Even though I am absolutely, positively dreading heading into work tomorrow to deal with the crazy mobs and sales--I will admit to already peeping some 'day-after-Christmas' deals. But how could I not? New Years is currently right around the corner and a girl needs a fabulous dress to properly start 2011 off with!

I hope this post finds you all in good health, full of happiness and relaxed after a wonderful holiday season. It has been way, way, way too long since I have posted and that is simply unacceptable despite the late (sometimes all) nights during finals and fulltime retail work schedule.

However, nonetheless, that just means ONE thing. I am that much closer to entering the "real world"--only one more semester to go till graduation!! Therefore, next year I already know what I will be asking Santa for...

This exact apartment--perfectly fitted for the young designer who simply just needs a small kitchen, exposed brick and some dainty touches. A big thanks to fujifiles for discovering this somewhat grown-up, somewhat feminine dwelling!

Serendipitous Discovery

Where do all these gorgeous photographs come from you might ask? The belong to Coliena Rentmeester, the eye behind J.Crew, Anthropologie, Elle and many other big name companies!

I randomly discovered her portfolio when I was on a graphic designer's website who just had happened to designed Rentmeester's effortlessly chic website. I was instantly drawn to her typography, feminine photography style and creative photo layouts (such great vintage flair).

Moments earlier I had clicked on graphic designer, Alexa McNae's portfolio because she had designed the branding for the cafe I was at...It's times like these that me so grateful for the blog-world and being able to so easily jump from link to link.

Setting Up Shop

How much fun would it be to go into work everyday if this was your office? Well this is an everyday routine for designer Julia Buckingham Edellmann (did she marry the shoe designer?!) who set up shop in the lovely city of Chicago...I wonder if she was lucky enough to have found the studio already composed of that decadent white brick or she did she paint it herself? Either way I definitely would not be too upset if I had to pull some all nighters in this glam-eclectic space :)

London Calling

Studio Toogood in London is quite frankly TOO GOOD! Combining art, architecture, fashion and interiors with a strong conceptual idea and a dash of playfulness, their work is everything I could ask for in a design company.

This particular project is for the Rug Company in NYC, which just opened recently in The States. All the accessories in the space are sourced from British antique markets. I really am loving the juxtaposition of the antique portraits with graphic elements "graffitied" over the somewhat traditional background. Again,this design is too good.

I have decided I must get a job here after graduation and get back to London for round two :)

Where is the lease at for this bad boy? I'd happily rent this place for a 6 month time period! I don't know what is getting into me lately but I have really taken a turn to the clean, modern style. I'd love to stay at 6a and get out of my "wore-in, vintage" comfort zone. I feel like this could be quite an inspiring abode for a young designer--now if only I could scrounge up 2.2 mil real quick....

Yesterday I came across House Industries, an absolutely amazing site dedicated to great graphic design. They have an overwhelmingly amount of font packages that make it impossible to pick just one. My favorite is the Eames package--perhaps I'll add it to my christmas list :) There's nothing like a good font to start your day off right...Happy Tuesday!

I have always absolutely loved anything from Hermes because of there boldly beautiful colors and an eye-catching patterns. There style is timeless. The same scarves they produced 100 years ago are just as stylish as the ones they design today. I am absolutely, positively infatuated with their new addition on their website which is dedicated to their infamous scarves, "j'aime mon carre" (translating to "i love my scarf"). Hermes showcases the girls of London, NYC, Paris and Tokyo and the endless ways you can rock your Hermes scarf...I could easily spend all day on this site.

How adorable are these branding products? I wish my handwriting was IDENTICAL to this careful,loopy typography! I am beginning to work on my Interior Design portfolio so I am trying to absorb as much graphic design that I can, especially styles that reflect my own...

I thought both of these companies did a wonderful job of making their packaging fun, creative and inviting to the customer. I would love to go to the Mermaid Inn just to receive that darling matchbook :) Surprisingly enough The Flour Pot Bakery and The Mermaid Inn are designed by different graphic artists despite the similar style.

Nate Berkus, You are a Design God...

Just went on Nate Berkus's website and got the immediate feeling that we would instantly be friends. I have always recognized the name but couldn't put a distinct face to an interior. These days I am all about the midcentury modern, paired against neutral surfaces and topped off with some bright colors, which also seemed to be the main theme to a lot his designs. He also designed one of my favorite Elle Decor editorials to date...does this one ring a back from 2008?

Not too long ago I discovered the Danish artist, Quadron and ever since have had her album on repeat! I'm not entirely sure what her genre would be classified under, but I would describe her as... Feelgood-Urban-Smooth Jazz (I am no music expert though). It's the perfect album to wake up to, my favorite songs are Pressure and the Average Fruit. Sofia Strikes Again!

Not only do I absolutely adore her newest collection of handbags, I think I love her ad campaign 3X more! As an interior design major, I truly appreciate the styling of her handbags within Coppola's own abode. I love the idea of placing her designs within her actual home to truly show off the very essence and everything Sofia Coppola exudes, Absolute Pure Sophistication.

Of course Marc Jacob's next step would be to open up a bookstore in Greenwich, NYC. Bookmarc is full of well designed pens and paper as well as notebooks, book bags and of course--books! I even heard through the grapevine that Jacobs will be opening up a Cafe soon in NYC as well. I'm even gonna double cross my fingers for a hotel, the man is unstoppable! But for now I'd be happy with a couple of designer sharpies :)

Retail vs Retail Matchup

My equal passion of fashion and interior design always bring me to retail spaces. I love what the architects at Roger Marvels did with the Kate Spade store in Japan. It's fresh, classic, fun and sophisticated, which is the perfect replication of what the designer is all about! I am loving the classic home structure that is adorned with colorful pinwheels in the backyard but glows at night in the front. Playful and delightful during the day but transforming into a chic sophisticate at night-- similiar to how the garments can translate throughout the day.

On the other hand there is the Vitra home store located between Germany and Switzerland. Vitra also relys on the basic home frame but plays on the idea of stacking and elongating this form. I love how basic the geometry is but how unique and innovative the whole building is. Looking from outside into the interior on the ground level, the view even seems a bit distorted which makes it become even more intriguing upon entry. I applaud both of these designs for taking a simple form and doing something out of the ordinary with it...

Talk about judging a book by its cover, I fall for this idea everytime I head down the wine aisle at the grocery store! I never bother even reading the label but instead purchase the best designed or creative bottle--not usually the most economical choice. I am dying to try out Jaqk's "Charmed". However, I don't know if I would ever actually uncork the bottle, its just too pretty!

British Nostalgia

Therefore I have been doing a bit of "British" retail therapy to make me feel as if I am still walking around that glorious city. I just indulged in a one of the greatest nail polish shades of all times--mummy by Butter London. As soon as I used it I remember why it I should stop buying $2 nail polish and invest in the more expensive...

Also I am anxiously awaiting the mailbox to receive THE SECOND issue of the gentlewoman magazine. I purchased the first one in Paris at Gar de Nord train station and instantly was drawn to the simplistic and sophisticated cover. It is an empowering magazine to the young and independent women of our generation. Truly top notch!

How a bout to the Caribbean for a nice little weekend stay at the Viceroy? And when you hear the word Viceroy, you immediately know KWID had something to do with interiors! I have been doing a lot of research on Wearstler the last couple of days in preparation for a design project and she just so happens to me my muse--makes homework quite enjoyable these days. I have to say though this is hotel is definitely my new favorite project of hers. I love how she actually went more simple--embracing raw textures and geometric forms. How gorgeous is that facade?! I wouldn't mind escaping here anytime soon...
